3 BBQ Rubs You Can Use For Your Summer Cookout.

Labor Day is fast approaching, and there is no better way to spend your time off than to have your friends over for a BBQ.  You can impress your friends by making your own homemade rubs to season your ribs.  Try out these three recipes to liven up your event and you meat. 

 

Kansas City Rub

 

This is a recipe for a traditional Kansas City style rub.  This rub calls for the use of a lot of brown sugar so you want to make sure that you do not cook it too fast or the sugar will burn. The ingredients are:

 

1/2 cup of brown sugar

1/4 cup of paprika

1 tablespoon of black pepper

1 tablespoon of salt

1 tablespoon of chili pepper

1 tablespoon of garlic powder

1 tablespoon of onion powder

1 teaspoon of cayenne

Mix all of the ingredients together.  You can put the mixture in a air tight container and keep for up to six months.  Apply the rub evenly to meat.

Carolina BBQ Rub

 

Living in the state of North Carolina, makes this rub very intriguing.  BBQ is way of life in the Carolinas, and the people who live here are proud of the distinct taste that is associated with their BBQ.  To make this rub you will need:

 

1/4 cup of paprika

2 tablespoons of salt

2 tablespoons of sugar

2 tablespoons of brown sugar

2 tablespoons of ground cumin

2 tablespoons of chili powder

2 tablespoons of ground pepper

1 tablespoon of cayenne

 

Mix well in a bowl and use as a dry run on beef, chicken, lamb, or pork.  Bring a taste of the Carolinas to your Labor Day BBQ. 

Memphis Style Rub

 

West Tennessee is known for their great BBQ rubs.  People travel from all over the world in order to savor the distinct taste of a Memphis rub.  Now you can have this run in your own home.  The ingredients you will need for this rub are:

 

1/2 cup of paprika

1/4 cup of garlic powder

1/4 cup of chili powder

2 tablespoons of salt

3 tablespoons of black pepper

2 tablespoons of onion powder

2 tablespoons of celery seeds

1 tablespoon of brown sugar

1 tablespoon of dried oregano

1 tablespoon of dried thyme

1 tablespoon of cumin

2 teaspoons of dry mustard

2 teaspoons of ground coriander

2 teaspoons of ground allspice 

 

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl and apply evenly to ribs.
