Questions That Every Bride Should Ask Of Their Caterer Before Hiring Them.
When it comes to wedding planning, there is so much that the bride and groom have to do before the big day that sometimes planning can get rushed. When searching for a caterer, time needs to be spent getting to know the caterer, tasting their food, and asking a lot of questions before they are hired to do your event. There are websites that list hundreds of questions to ask your caterer. For length purposes, I have chosen to include only a few of the more important questions you should ask anyone you want to hire to cater your wedding.
Is my date available? Will you be catering any other events on that day?
This is a two part question that goes hand in hand with each other. The question of your date availability is very basic, but it is also very important. Usually by the time you are booking a caterer, you have already chosen your date. If you haven't chosen a date and you are adamant about using that caterer, you can coordinate with that them about a date that works best. The second question is important to ask if you don't want your caterer to be in two different places at once on your big day. If the catering company is large and has numerous employees, they will be able to handle multiple events on one day. If they are a small outfit with limited resources, they might not be able to handle the work load. Having multiple events planned for your day is a huge consideration for whether you will hire that caterer.
Have you catered any events at my venue?
If the caterer is local to the area, then chances are that they have worked at many of the venues you have considered. This can be vital information for you since they have worked your venue before. They will know where and how to setup. They will also know how long it takes to get to the venue, and how long it can take to setup. They will be aware of the capabilities of the venue's kitchen area and if they need to bring any outside equipment. A caterer's knowledge of a venue can lead to a smoother set up and break down on your big day. If you have not picked a venue yet for your wedding, a caterer has first hand knowledge of the best venues in your area. They may be able to give you examples of some of the best places to hold your wedding or reception.
Given my budget, guest count, and event style, what food choices do you recommend? Do you specialize in certain cuisines?
Many brides have a theme that they have envisioned for their wedding. There is no better way to accent a theme for a wedding than to plan the perfect food to go with that theme. Talk with your caterer about your theme and ask them if they can see a vision for the food. If you have a vision already, you can ask you caterer if your vision for the food can be realized. Many caterers will have preplanned menus on their websites. These are entrees and sides that they have done in the past and they specialize in. You may want to check out those menus before you meet with them to have an understanding about what they have done in the past.
Does the caterer provide tables, chairs, plates, napkins, and silverware?
If you are going to have dinner at your wedding reception you are going to need utensils and tables for everyone to use. If your venue does not provide those amenities in their package then you are going to have get them from somewhere. You need to make sure that if you want your caterer to provide these things that they know in advance and are able to meet your needs.
Do you provide a food tasting before the event?
Unless you really trust your caterer, you are going to want to taste their food before you hire them. A food tasting lets you know that their food is good, and also that they are able to provide exactly what you are looking for. Plus, speaking from experience, it is really fun to taste test a bunch of food with your significant other.
There are many, many other questions that you should be asking your caterer. This is just a small sample of the most important question from the minds of the employees of Simply Delicious Catering.
