4 tablespoons of dijon mustard
3 cloves of garlic: smashed and finely chopped
Pinch of crushed red pepper
2 sprigs of rosemary: picked and finely chopped
Juice and zest of one lemon
2 one pound steaks
Extra virgin olive oil
The recipe is great way to add some summertime zest to a steak. You can use any steak that you want. The recipe calls for hanger steaks. If you cannot find hanger steak, or it is too expensive, you can always use flank steak. In a small bowl you will combine the dijon mustard, garlic, rosemary, lemon juice and zest, and the crushed red pepper. Place the steaks in a container and cover them with marinade until they are fully submerged. Let the steak marinate in the refrigerator overnight. If you don't have that much time you can let them marinate for anytime over two ours. Preheat the grill. Once it is preheated, you can brush and oil the grill with the olive oil and add a little bit of salt to the steaks. Place the steaks on the hot spot of the grill and brush the excess marinade onto the steaks. For a medium rare steak, let them cook for four to five minutes per side. Remove the steaks from the grill and let them sit for five to ten minutes before cutting. Serve the steak with any sides that you enjoy or ones that you think might compliment the steak. When I cooked this recipe, I served the steak with grilled zucchini that had been marinated in Italian dressing. I also served red potatoes. You can see my attempt at the recipe in the picture below.
The steaks I bought to cook with this recipe were very tender. The marinade added the perfect kick to the steaks. It added a subtle sweet and tangy taste to the meat, which I really enjoyed. I thought that the zucchini marinated in Italian dressing complimented the tangy and sweet taste of the meat very well. My family and I really enjoyed this recipe. I hope that you will try the recipe and let us know what you think.
